The marriage of the card and the plastic card

When was the plastic card introduced at all, and what is its wide use?

Large, well-known companies brought plastic cards in the 60s, and this little card has enjoyed unbroken popularity ever since. This is because it can be widely used, which we have already written about. Its durable material, pleasant, small, pocketable size make it ideal and, of course, its quality material and water resistance thanks to laminated technologies add a lot to the values of a plastic card.

Since it can be made unique in several ways, and thanks to today's technologies – e.g. chip system, magnetic strip, RFID technologies – it can be used for personal interfaces, private identification or serious access control systems. Whether it is a financial institution, office building or sports clubs, leisure wellness and fitness centers, swimming pools, or managing the personal data sheets of their clients and guests.

With its unique graphics, sturdy material and surface, the plastic card functions well for a long time, so it is not only practical, but also usable.

So we all know this about plastic cards, but how and how long have ID cards and plastic cards been in contact?

Identity cards were issued for the first time in Hungary in 1954, and until 2000 that little burgundy booklet was issued, which many of us are still familiar with, and perhaps we even keep the first one in our memorial drawer...

Everyone was obliged to carry it with them, since at that time it was the only document that proved our identity authentically. For the first time, the identity card was changed to a greater extent in 1992 – at that time our new identity card could still see the light of day in the form of a small booklet, but it was no longer equipped with a hard, but with a soft-cover cover, and even later, at the turn of the millennium, the plastic card system identity card was introduced, which is still known and used today, accompanied by an official card certifying the address, shorter It is more commonly known as the address card.

From 2001, even passports could become personal identification documents, and our driver's license was also given card format.

The latest innovation is the electronic ID card introduced in January 2016, where a chip card system has been introduced into the plastic card format card, which stores our personal data and, if we choose, even our fingerprints, which will come in handy in case of electronic signature.
